Fifteen years ago, when I first moved to San Francisco, I knew virtually nothing about wine. The extent of my knowledge was that there was 3 kinds of wine: red, white and Boone's. I'd find myself going out to dinner with friends or being at a party and trying a new wine I liked. Problem was, a month down the road, when I recognized that wine on a restaurant menu or at the grocery store, I couldn't remember if that was the wine I liked or the one I had disliked. Not to metion the varietal, year, vineyard, etc. Perhaps it had something to do with the amount I had imbibed that evening OR, perhaps, this was a problem that many people were having. Thus, was born Remember Wine.
I programmed my old WAP phone to create a mobile website (nerd alert) and started saving the wines I liked (and the ones I disliked). Soon, I decided to share that site with others. Eventually, I broadened the concept to be rememberstuff.me because my ability to forget things goes far beyond just wine. The beauty of it all is: there is no app to install; your data is available on any device; and it don't cost a thing!
Introducing rememberstuff.me for Wine
So, I'd like to introduce you to the wine section of rememberstuff.me (shortcut: wines.rememberstuff.me) and then I'll share a few of my favorite wines. There are 4 basic things to do in the wine section:
- Remember a Wine: save a wine you like (or dislike) so you can find it later
- Find a Wine Using the Wizard: cool little mobile web app to help you find the best wine for you
- Search & Browse Wines: what you'd expect
- Buy Wines: many of the wines can be found online for purchase
Remember a Wine
This is really pretty easy. Just type the first 3 letters of the name of the winery. The rest of the flow will take care of itself. While taking pictures of labels and everything is nice (and we may do that in the future), oftentimes, in low light situations or when a friend is telling you about the wine without the bottle present, we've found that this simple approach makes it quite easy regardless of the situation.
Find a Wine Wizard
This thing is great. You can choose to find wines by food pairing, varietal, wine awards score and all sorts of other stuff. Also, if you have facebook friends already using Remember Stuff, you can see the wines they like and the scores they gave them if they have made them public. Then you can buy them online if you so choose.
