3 Awesome Books from Authors You've Never Heard of

If you like reading I'm sure you've read books from very famous authors that you didn’t like, on the other hand there are sometimes little jewels that you most likely stumbled across, books by someone you’ve never heard of and that leave you sad the book is over. Here are 3 good examples of awesome books from authors who don't make sell millions of copies (but probably should).

Dying Inside >

Dying Inside is a literary masterpiece. The only reason why it's not recognized as such is because it was written by Robert Silverberg a semi-unknown science fiction author. The main character David Selig is a telepath who, instead of using his fantastic ability to the benefit of the humanity or to make himself wildly successful, uses it in the most mundane ways that you can think of; he makes a living reading student minds so he can then sell them papers at the local college.
We meet him just as he's starting to lose his amazing power and trying to deal with the loss of the only thing that he valued in his life.
At the same time he is reminiscing about past events like how being a telepath drove him and his sister apart or how he once experienced his girlfriend’s acid trip just by accessing her mind.
But the real star in this book is the author. Silverberg's words make you feel the loss David Selig is feeling even though you were never a telepath (I think) and that makes any book worth reading.

One of Us >

Ever hear of Michael Marshall Smith? Neither had I before running into One of Us at a used book sale. And what a find it was. The story takes place in a bizarre world where house appliances talk and you can pay a corporation called the REMtemp, to have nightmares for you instead of experiencing them yourself.
The lead in this story, Mr. Hap Thompson works for REMtemp but does some illegal work too. He stores memories for his clients. Want to forget you're married for a while so you can have a guilt free affair? Hap Thompson is your man. Of course, that’s illegal, but things are still working out in his life until one client (a girl that has just committed murder) leaves a memory with him and refuses to take it back. If you think this story is weird and convoluted now, just wait until you read the rest of it..

Improbable >

Rarely is the first work of an author as fantastically good as Improbable, Adam Fawer's debut work. It's a unique combination, an action packed book that at the same time focuses on the internal struggle of a man deeply affected by violent epileptic seizures. Oh, and you will learn a lot about statistics and probability along the way. Sounds weird? It's actually amazingly good.
David Caine owes the Russian mafia a lot of money because he's been trying to put his amazing mathematical abilities to work at poker and he has won. It doesn't help that sometimes his games are interrupted by the seizures that have plagued him all his life. So, in despair, he volunteers for an experimental treatment that ends up enhancing his mathematical abilities in a way that enables him to predict and change the immediate future. Sounds interesting? Well, I haven't even mentioned the rogue spies or the FBI yet...
Until Improbable, I had never seen a book that has you on the edge of your seat the entire time and still manages to teach you about things like probability theory, Schrödinger's cat and Laplace's demon.
