Stay Fit with Fitbits: Choose the Best Model for You

Fitbit is one of the most popular activity trackers on the market today. What's more, is that there are several models, and they range between $60 and $130. It comes with native apps for iPhone and Android, where users can log their food, activities, water intake and weight, in addition to tracking fitness goals. Since there are several models, we review each of them for you.

Fitbit One >

This model was announced on September 17, 2012. It features Bluetooth iPhone syncing, water resistance and even a vibrating alarm when using the Fitbit as a sleep monitor. It is sleek, sturdy and affordable. It is especially useful for non-athletes to help monitor your physical activity and give you motivation. The device retails for around $99.95. You wear it as a clip on, and it has an OLED display. The One now comes with the ability to track floors climbed.

Fitbit Zip >

The Fitbit Zip is considered the basic version of the Fitbit fitness tracker. Almost anyone can afford it since it starts at around $60. It does not monitor your sleeping habits, and it won't track your performance on a Stairmaster. But, it can track your steps, calories burned and it does sync wirelessly with Fitbit's website and smartphone apps. If you are looking for a simple fitness tracker that is budget-friendly, then this is the model for you.

Fitbit Flex >

The Fitbit Flex is a bit different from the One and the Zip, because you wear it as a bracelet. It also supports Bluetooth 4.0, which syncs wirelessly to both Android and iOS. And, the device starts at around $100. What consumers find most appealing is it is comfortable to wear and difficult to lose, since it is wrapped around your wrist. Its design is clean and attractive with several color options. It also offers a simple LED display. The flex is priced at right around $100.

Furthermore, the device counts your steps, measures how restless your sleep was and tracks your calories burned. If you tap it twice, the lights tell you how close you are to your step goal. If you tap it five times, you can tell it when you plan on going to bed. Tap it five more times, and you can tell it when you intend to start your day. And, the battery gives you around five to seven days of use. The Flex lacks the clock and floors climbed features that the Fitbit One includes, but makes up for the lack in wearability.

Like the Flex, the Charge is a wristband. And, it is considered one of 2014's best fitness trackers. It also comes with an altimeter to tell you how many floors you climbed each day. Not to mention, you can easily record workouts.

The Surge is the grand-daddy of all Fitbits. It incorporates all of the features of the other models and added in a few new, high tech features that make it almost smart watch-esque. You can find multi-sport, text notifications, GPS tracking, and music controls on the new Surge.

These new features combine to create the perfect fitness tracker for the performance athlete. At $249.95, the Surge may not be the best value for everyone, but serious athletes will benefit from the increased functionality and the ability to carry one device for all their tech needs.
